Kusama in the Bronx
I've posted a blog, Kusama in the Bronx, about the Kusama: Cosmic Nature exhibition (which can be seen through October 31, 2021), with photos from my two trips in April to the New York Botanical Garden and some thoughts about Kusama’s work. I’ve included some photos below, but visit the blog for even more!
I visited the exhibition again in October before it closed, and I’ve included photographs below.
This slide show includes photos of the Kuysama exhibition from April 2021.
A visit to the Kusama exhibition on October 21, 2021, had a special surprise. Underneath the huge pumpkin on the way to the Conservatory, a large praying mantis was walking on the pedestal. It posed for a number of shots before flying off.
The photos below were taken inside and outside the Conservatory and at the Narcissus installation on October 21, 2021.
Christmas at the New York Botanical Garden 2020
I visited the New York Botanical Garden after it reopened with Covid-19 safeguards for the train show and again for Glow!, the holiday light installation. The two videos try to capture some of the magic at one of the jewels of New York City.
The 2019 Orchid Show
The 2019 Orchid Show: Singapore at the New York Botanical Garden has its own page. The video can be seen there, plus a guide to the identified orchids.
The Orchid Show 2018
The New York Botanical Garden's 2018 Orchid Show featured an installation by Daniel Ost and displayed thousands of orchids and other flowers from the garden's permanent collection. I filmed the show on April 17, and set the video to music by Gabriel Fauré, Erik Satie and Léo Delibes.
The Orchid Show: Thailand
I visited the Orchid Show: Thailand on March 12 and 29, 2017. The orchids and other plants in the Haupt Conservatory were absolutely stunning in their riot of color, shapes and sensuality.
The video is set to music by Delibes, Schumann, Niemann and Chopin. I made it part of the Contemplate This! series, which is designed to relieve stress while being viewed!
Some of the gorgeous blooms at the show.
The jade vines in the Haupt Conservatory aquatic room are so incredibly sensual.
The cactuses were also intriguing, and warranted several photos.
The Train Show, 2016
Thanks to the generosity of Sonia Villa, I was able to visit the Holiday Train Show at NYBG and produce a video for the Christmas in New York series.
The video really displays the intricate plant-created buildings in this exhibition. Below are some photos from the show.
An Afternoon in the Gardens
I spent about seven hours in the Bronx at the New York Botanical Garden on March 31, 2016. It was a very early spring day, and while the daffodils were in full bloom, other plants were just starting to come up. The chipmunks were a delight, once I was able to spot them in the rustling leaves.
The orchid show was on, but I didn't attend since the tickets were a little pricey and I wanted to spend most of my first visit to the garden in the Thain Family Forest. I had heard there was a pair of great horned owls, and I looked in every hemlock I could to try to find them. I didn't succeed. But what I did see made for a very rewarding afternoon.
I put up a Silly Video, An Afternoon in the Gardens. It is set to Beethoven's String Quartet No. 3 in D, Op. 18, No. 3, performed by the Borromeo String Quartet. Enjoy!
