During the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, my camera was my solace. I found photographing flowers to be such great joy. I have posted most of my favorites on my Flowers and Foliage page, but I wanted to include even more, so I am posting a selection on this page to supplement the main page. I don’t take “spring” literally — some of the flowers extend into summer.
Irises, From Afar and Up Close and Personal
Some of the most photogenic flowers in the spring are the irises, which are gorgeous when seen together in groups on the water’s edge, and individually, Georgia O’Keeffing them deep inside.
Roses Are Red … and Pink … and Yellow
Pink Dogwoods, and White
I love the pink dogwood tree on the west side of the Swedish Cottage in Central Park. In 2020, I photographed the blossoms through the spring. Here is a selection.
White Dogwood
The pink dogwood tree may be my favorite flowering tree in the spring, but the white dogwoods also are gorgeous.
Bouquets and Bouquets of Tulips
Tulips became very important to me during the first days of the pandemic. They were some of the first signs of spring, and they offered themselves in so many colors to admire and jump into. I photographed them in Central Park, on the south side of the American Museum of Natural History, and in Riverside Park.
