I first saw a verdin (Auriparus flaviceps) on April 29, 2016, when I visited Camp Verde, Arizona. The bird appeared as a "yellow birdie," too quick to photograph well. Fortunately, the bird reappeared at the feeders on May 1 and May 3, and I was able to take a little video and a couple of photographs.

These are nonmigratory birds with light gray bodies, yellow head and a small rusty red shoulder patch. They eat insects, seeds, fruit and nectar.
