After a misidentification episode, the bird I filmed on June 25, 2019, at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge turned out to be a tricolored heron (Egretta tricolor). My thanks to Jean Shum and Deb Allen for letting me know that instead of a little blue heron, I had spotted a much rarer bird! (It is uncommon in our area, but does well in the South — it used to be called the Louisiana Heron.)

These birds usually wade in saltmarshes, stalking to find fish. This heron bird was perched over the West Pond, until a mockingbird smacked him off the tree. (By the way, the three colors in the name are: blue-gray, lavender, and white.) I decided not to add music to this Filming the Feathers video, because I found the sound of the wind and other birds more interesting, and there was no talking that needed to be cut out.
