A seaside sparrow (Ammodramus maritimus) visited Central Park's Pond in April 2018. I filmed the little bird on April 18 as it wrestled with a huge grub worm. This sparrow has a bright yellow stripe in front of the eye and a rusty wing patch. Seaside sparrows eat seeds, spiders, insects, and marine invertebrates. Although seaside sparrows are common overall, residing in salt marshes, they are rare visitors to Central Park, and we enjoyed seeing the little sparrow hunt for food.
The video is set to a double cello concerto by Antonio Vivaldi, performed by New Trinity Baroque.
