In mid-September 2023, we visited Willow Pond on Long Island to photograph a roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) that somehow found its way to New York. The roseate spoonbill (the only one of six species of spoonbills that resides in the Americas) normally hangs out in the southeastern coast of the United States, so a visitor to Long Island is rather special. We were delighted to spend two days photographing this bird and the egrets, great blue herons, ospreys and cormorants that frequented this very small pond.
This video was filmed on September 16 and 17, 2023, at Willow Pond on Long Island.
The photos in this slide show were taken at Willow Pond on September 16 and 17.
