I have seen a couple of red-throated loons (Gavia stellata ), one in Central Park and several on my visits to Breezy Point and Staten Island. On March 20, 2018, I was fortunate enough to get very close to a nonbreeding red-throated loon at Marine Park in Brooklyn.

This Filming the Feathers video was shot March 20, 2018, at Marine Park. Music is by Debussy.

Another Silly Video by Susan Kirby. A red-throated loon (Gavia stellata) was seen briefly at Marine Park in Queens on March 20, 2018. This loon can take off from land if necessary, and doesn't need the long water takeoff required by other loons. These fish eaters breed in the high latitudes of North America and Eurasia.

These photos were taken at Marine Park on March 20.
