One of the first birds I fell in love with in Central Park was the red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus). I remember chasing down the paths in the ramble when I heard that loud pecking sound, looking up to find that red head. As time went on, I got to "know" several red-bellies, one who'd watch for me to come in with peanuts at the Upper Lobe, and another who'd wait for me at Laupot Bridge. I'll add a Filming the Feathers video soon, but for now, some photos.
