I love bunny rabbits, and New York City and Long Island have several places to see them. We basically get eastern cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus) here. I’ve seen them at Dead Horse Bay, Mt. Loretto Unique Area on Staten Island, near Nickerson Beach on Long Island, and some dropped off into Central Park (including white rabbits after Easter, which must be rescued or fall prey to the hawks, raccoons, etc.).
This delightful bunny was in Shakespeare Garden in Central Park on March 26, 2022.
The eastern cottontails in this slideshow were seen at Croton Point Park (Westchester), Mount Loretto Unique Area (Staten Island), and Lido Beach Passive Nature Area (Long Island) in July and August 2021.
The bunny below was seen at Mt. Loretto Unique Area on May 22, 2019. The bunny looked for food, cratched behind his ears, then look for food again.
The Silly Video is set to music by Joachim Raff, his Sinfonietta, Op. 188, performed by Concerto Musica de Camara Escuela Superior de Musica Reina, obtained from MusOpen.org, a royalty-free music source.
The grid below has some of my favorite rabbit shots from 2017 and 2019, in no particular order. The 2017 photos were taken at Dead Horse Bay, the 2019 photos at Nickerson Beach and Mount Loretto.
