Louisiana waterthrushes (Parkesia motacilla) are one of the first signs of spring in our area. They like to stay around moving water, and this Louisiana waterthrush was seen at Sylvan Waters in Green-Wood Cemetery on April 11, 2023. These warblers bob their tails constantly as they forage for insects in the mud. According to the Cornell Web site, Louisiana waterthrushes are "Brownish above, with a very prominent white eyebrow (supercilium); pale below, with dark streaks. The supercilium is thicker in Louisiana than in Northern, and tends to flare at the rear. The legs are bright pink."
