When grey catbirds (Dumetella carolinensis) come into Central Park in the spring, they sort of take over, chirping and singing louder than almost every other bird, wagging their rusty tail feathers all over the woodlands. They really do mew, which makes them pretty easy to spot. I see them all over New York City and Long Island, and always love seeing them (even though after a while one catbird photographs pretty much like another one!).
These catbirds were seen in Central Park in May 2020.
