In April 2021, we had the opportunity to watch an eastern meadowlark (Sturnella magna) for about a week in the northern part of Central Park. Thanks to the report by Elizabeth Paredes, we had almost a week to watch this incredible bird forage in the North Meadow and nearby for its diet of insects.

All the time I watched this bird, I kept hearing the lyrics from “It Never Was You,” from Knickerbocker Holiday, in my head. By the third day of filming the meadowlark, I was singing quietly as I filmed, “… or a heartbreak call from a meadowlark’s nest. …”
