Dunlins (Calidris alpina) are small sandpipers with very long bills that feed along the shores and wetlands, foraging for aquatic invertebrates. I filmed dunlins on Oct. 2 and 9, 2018, on the beach at Breezy Point, Queens, hanging out with sanderlings, chasing the waves and occasionally jumping straight up and flapping their wings, only to return to the sand and continue foraging.

The music for the Filming the Feathers video includes the two allegro movements of Bach's Brandenburg concertos Nos. 4 and 3, arranged for recorders and performed by Papalin (obtained from MusOpen.org, a royalty-free music source).
