The ash-throated flycatcher (Myiarchus cinerascens) normally breeds and lives in arid regions west of the Mississippi, so when one of these little birds shows up in New York City, it is a cause for great rejoicing. These lemon-bellied flycatchers with their cinnamon tails have a distinctive ka-brick call. Their diet includes spiders and insects, and the birds don’t need to drink water, getting all they needs from their food. The ash-throated flycatcher in the following photos and video was seen on November 21, 2020, at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. (It shared celebrity status there with a western tanager.)
